ENCOURAGEMENT: Wherever you are at in your racial justice journey/unlearning of white supremacy, I am here to cheer you on as a fellow teammate who is on her own lifelong journey. Every month I will update this website with new resources and poetry. Feel free to message me if you need a space to process what you are learning. I am not an expert but I can listen and encourage. I can point you to some of the many individuals, organizations and resources that are full of knowledge and expertise, who continue to be helpful in my own growth.
EMPOWERMENT: We have more power than we think to make a difference! This is GOOD NEWS! Visit the links and resources I have under GOLD to learn about some of the many individuals and organizations that are working to make huge compassionate change that is liberating for all of us. Find out ways to help support the work they are doing, while you continue to grow in your own learning and awareness. *ALSO* I absolutely love my community of Oak Harbor, WA. We have amazing people here that are working to make compassionate difference in many different ways and areas everyday. Each month on the home page, I will highlight one such person who is serving our town with love and creating positive change for all of us.

Hi!

My name is Brooke (she/her) and I live on beautiful Whidbey Island with my love, Joe, and our two incredible daughters: Annie and Bella. It is our joy and honor to witness and cheer them on as they unfold into who God made them to be. We also have three dogs and two cats who are a huge part of our family too!

I have been about the Great Commandment since I was 6 years old- that is my purpose and my mission. But about five years ago I read Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and God used that book to break my heart and open my eyes to just how unaware I have been of the reality of racial injustice in our country. Since then I have been on an ongoing journey of listening, learning, and unlearning.

Throughout it all, God has been challenging me with this question: what does it look like to love Him and others well and truly today? What does love look like? What does it sound like? I have come to the deep conviction that love is not silent and passive when our siblings are suffering. My poetry, art and this website is inspired by my love of God and people and nature and it is shared with an active strong hope and big love.

The first of Brooke Erin Stout's poetry collections committed to the page, In Hope is a written record and witness of one person's growth in the light of what she can not unsee or un-know about justice and her country.

In each piece, she confronts herself with one question: What does it mean to love God and others with all your heart in today's world?

With each word, she realizes her past silence, ignorance, and passivity when it came to inequality was not love.

These poems are spoken and visual declarations of an inward fire that continues to change every aspect of one person's life, fueling her desire to go deeper as she learns to trust God and all He made her to be.
